New Delhi: Microsoft has officially announced its Annual Developer Conference, Build 2026, is set ot kick off on June 2. Microsoft is expected to make a series of announcements around AI, its operating system, and developer tools at the event. Microsoft is gearing up to showcase the latest AI models, a developer-focused Windows 11 experience, improvements to Windows performance, and future plans for Copilot. Microsoft is increasingly reshaping its business around AI while also seeking to address concerns among developers regarding Windows and GitHub.
AI is expected to remain the centerpiece of the conference. Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman is expected to unveil a new reasoning model called MAI-Thinking-1. The model will be Microsoft’s first reasoning aimed AI system and has been reported to have been developed without using model distillation, a technique where one AI model learns from the foundations of another model. Microsoft is also expected to release the latest image generation models, including MAI-Image-2.5 and MAI-Image-2.5 Flash.
Microsoft is also working on the latest Copilot Super application that might bring multiple Copilot AI assistants into a single interface. Development is still ongoing, and an image of this alleged super application surfaced online, which also offers a glimpse of Microsoft Scout, an AI agent that is believed to be connected to Microsoft’s OpenClaw project. The app is not expected to be available during Build, with the preview access potentially arriving later this year.
The company might unveil the latest Windows 11 developer-optimized experience, which is specially designed to simplify software development workflows. The latest environment is expected to include pre-installed developer tools, apps, and scripts, while reducing distractions within the operating system. The latest feature is reported to focus on addressing long-standing requests from developers for a more streamlined Windows setup. To offer upgrades on its broader efforts to improve Windows 11 performance and user experience.
Local AI processing on Windows devices is expected to be another key aim during the conference. Microsoft has been preparing the latest capabilities that will enable developers to run AI models locally on Windows PCs rather than relying entirely on cloud-based services. This might help to reduce operational costs and improve performance for certain AI workloads. Microsoft has also confirmed that its Prism emulator will enable the traditional 32-bit and 64-bit x86 apps to run on RTX Spark-powered devices and has been further tuned for the latest hardware. Windows ML and native TensorRT integration, while adding a range of Windows on Arm apps. Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro run natively on ARM and are receiving further optimizations in collaboration with Adobe and NVIDIA.
Beyond Windows and AI, Microsoft might also going to address the future of GitHub. GitHub has also faced many challenges in recent months, including employee departures, service outages, and security-related incidents. Build presents an opportunity for Microsoft to reassure developers and outline plans for improving the platform. Microsoft faces increasing pressure to rebuild trust among the developers who rely on GitHub for software development and collaboration.
