Midday meal beneficiary students to get 4 kg of rice for Onam

Students who are beneficiaries of the midday meal scheme will be given 4 kg of rice each for Onam, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has said. Nearly 24.8 lakh students from pre-primary to Class VIII will benefit. The government has given permission for the rice to be distributed from the stocks of the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco).

Supplyco will also transport the rice to schools. Besides the current transportation charges, an additional 50 paise a kg will be given. Directions have been given to Supplyco to lift stocks from neighbouring districts in case of shortage in a particular district.
