Hundreds of residents from Badidevarakonda village in Parvatipuram-Manyam district urged the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Bonela Vijaya Chandra to intervene and close the ongoing mining operations near their village. They said, the quarrying is causing severe air and water pollution in the surrounding areas.
Mr. Vijaya Chandra who visited the areas, assured the villagers that he would raise the issue with the government. He acknowledged that the villagers had for long been protesting against the mining activity on the Badidevarakonda, which is also home to local deities that have been worshipped for many decades.
He criticised the quarry leaseholders for failing to follow mining norms, and causing hardships to the villagers. He instructed revenue and mining officials to prepare a detailed note on the actual situation and take necessary steps after consulting senior departmental authorities.
The villagers thanked Mr. Vijaya Chandra for visiting the site and ensuring remedial measures.
