Migrant worker killed in accident

Kochi: A 36-year-old migrant worker was killed after he was knocked down by a speeding two-wheeler while waiting for a bus at Manjummel Junction around 8.30pm on Monday.The deceased was identified as Kartik Roy, of Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.

He was rushed to a hospital, but his life couldn’t be saved. Police said he was undergoing treatment at Ernakulam govt medical college hospital when he succumbed to his injuries around 2am on Tuesday.The two-wheeler was reportedly speeding and went out of control, and the rider also sustained injuries in the accident. He is recuperating from his injuries.Police said prima facie rash and negligent driving seems to be the reason for the accident.

Eloor police registered a case, and further investigation is going on. The body will be handed over to the kin after an autopsy.Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man died after getting knocked down by a train at Aluva railway station early on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Edwin of Assamannoor. Aluva police registered an FIR for unnatural death. Police said an investigation is on into the reason for the death. The body will be handed over to the kin after an autopsy, police said.
