US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said the United States has “militarily defeated" Iran, adding that King Charles III “agrees with me even more than I do" that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons.

In his first public remarks on the issue during a state dinner at the White House attended by several dignitaries, Trump said: “We’re doing a little Middle East… we have militarily defeated our opponent. We’re never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon. Charles agrees with me even more than I do."

Trump’s comments come amid heightened tensions in the US-Iran conflict, which has included military action, naval blockades, and regional instability.

Both the United States and the United Kingdom have long maintained that Iran should not develop nuclear weapons, though Tehran insists its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes under international agreements.
