Straw Bed, Cushion, and more revealed

Mojang has released Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 3, introducing two brand-new comfort-focused features alongside a wave of significant technical improvements. The Cushion and the Straw Bed are the headline additions, giving players new ways to relax around the campfire and sleep through the night without the commitment of a full bed.

There were also changes to the Dappled Forest, ensuring the experience is optimal for upcoming features. In the section below, we take a detailed look at everything new in the Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 3.

Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 3 patch notes

Here are the detailed patch notes for Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 3:

New Features

Cushion

  • A new placeable item available in 16 colour variants, one for each wool colour
  • Crafted using 3 Wool Slabs of the same colour
  • Can be placed on any flat surface and interacted with to sit down
  • Cushions align horizontally to the grid and sit on top of their supporting surface
  • They do not have collision and can overlap with other objects, except other Cushions
  • Break if the supporting block beneath them is removed

Straw Bed

  • A new type of bed that lets players sleep through the night without setting a spawn point
  • Single-use only - it is destroyed after being slept in
  • Cannot be used in the Nether or The End, and will be destroyed if attempted there
  • Crafted using 3 Hay Bales, yielding 4 Straw Beds per craft
  • A new statistic has been added to the Statistics window tracking how many times a player has slept in a Straw Bed

Gothic Language Support

  • Gothic language support has been added to the game

Technical Changes

New Command: /posteffect

  • A new command that allows adding or removing post-processing shader effects to players' screens
  • Syntax includes add, clear, list, and remove sub-commands
  • Post effects exist on the client side within resource packs, meaning the server cannot confirm whether an effect is visually applied
  • Custom shaders are now fully accessible from resource packs, though Mojang notes these features may be redesigned in the future

Custom Brewing Recipes

  • Potion brewing recipes are now data-driven and can be added or modified via data packs using the new minecraft:brewing recipe type
  • Any items can now be used in any of the three brewing slots, opening up significant new possibilities for custom potion systems

New Number Provider Registry

  • A new minecraft:number_provider registry has been introduced, enabling more flexible and configurable data-driven systems across the game

  • Fixed Drowned no longer chasing players correctly
  • Fixed Drowned consuming or using certain items they should not
  • Fixed the glowing effect on entities remaining visible after being cleared
