Minister for Minorities Welfare N. MD. Farooq on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) emphasised the need for creating awareness on fire safety measures by organising campaigns and mock drills at schools, hospitals, and commercial establishments. He participated in the Fire Services Week celebrations held at the Tekme Market Yard along with Collector Rajakumari Ganiya, regional fire officer Bhupal Reddy and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Farooq said every individual should be responsible in preventing fire accidents and loss of life and property. He said those who are constructing high-rise buildings should take necessary permissions from the Fire Services Department and leave set back space around the building for easy passage of fire tenders. He said provision of emergency exits should be made mandatory. All shops and godowns selling firecrackers should take the requisite licences and the Fire Services Department should make regular visits to check licences and other measures.
