Patna: The body of a minor girl was recovered from a pond located behind a temple in Brahmapura area of Muzaffarpur district on Monday morning, with family members alleging that the incident appears to be linked to a love affair.
The deceased was identified as Pallavi Kumari, 15, daughter of Dashrath Thakur.Upon receiving the information, a police team reached the spot. Her family was informed, and a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called to the spot. The body was sent to the SKMCH for postmortem.SDPO Town-II, Binita Sinha, also reached the spot to oversee the proceedings, as a large number of local residents had gathered at the place.
“The family told the police that the incident appears to be linked to a love affair. The girl wanted to marry a boy, but the family objected to it. On April 26 night, Pallavi was at her parents’ residence near Lakshmi Chowk. Her parents took away her mobile phone over the issue, after which she reportedly became distressed.“The family stated that the girl went to the boy’s residence a few days ago, but she was handed back to the family by the boy’s side. She remained at home until last night. Prima facie, it appears that, distressed over her parents confiscating her phone and the objections to the relationship, the girl came to the spot and died by suicide. The exact cause of death will be known from the medical report,” the SDPO said.Police are conducting further investigation and are also examining whether there are any other reasons behind the incident.
