MLB Trade Rumors: Giants insiders reveal surprising truth about Rafael Devers amid growing speculation (Image via Getty)
The San Francisco Giants are not planning to break up their core players right now, even after a rough start to the season. Recent rumors suggested the team could look at moving stars like Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, or Matt Chapman before the trade deadline.
But according to MLB insider Robert Murray, the Giants are not having those conversations internally. Speaking on Foul Territory, Murray said, “Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, Matt Chapman, the Giants have not internally discussed trading any of those players. They want to continue to build around them. They want to continue to try to compete this season.”That update comes at an important time for San Francisco. The Giants have struggled through the first part of the year and currently sit at 18-25, fourth in the National League West.
Even with the difficult record, the front office still appears focused on trying to stay competitive instead of starting a rebuild.Rafael Devers and San Francisco Giants still focused on competing despite difficult start
Still, trading him now would likely make little sense for San Francisco. His value around the league could rise quickly if he starts hitting the way he normally does. Teams know what kind of player Devers can be when healthy and confident at the plate. Because of that, the Giants may feel there is more value in keeping him rather than moving him during a down stretch. The same thinking appears to apply to Willy Adames and Matt Chapman.
Both players are viewed as important pieces for the club moving forward. Even though the Giants have had problems this season, the organization does not seem ready to give up on 2026 yet.The National League West remains one of baseball’s toughest divisions with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres continuing to play strong baseball. Still, San Francisco could stay in the Wild Card race if the team starts playing more consistently over the next few months. The trade deadline is getting closer, so the Giants will eventually need to decide how aggressive they want to be. But for now, the message from inside the organization is clear. San Francisco still believes this group can compete, and Rafael Devers is still part of those plans.
