K. Shivakumar, MLC, has called upon Adivasi communities to unite and launch a joint struggle to secure the facilities they are entitled to.

He was speaking at the 6th Adivasi Janata Parliament session held at the premises of the DEED institution in Hunsur on Friday.

Mr. Shivakumar emphasised the need for an organised movement and united efforts by tribal communities to secure their rights.

He expressed concern that the ideals enshrined in the Constitution by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar have not fully reached Adivasi communities. “Tribals have not received their due share in education, healthcare, employment, and basic infrastructure,” he said.

He urged tribal youth, women, and elders from Chamarajanagar to Udupi to come together and build a united movement to safeguard their community rights. If the present generation fails to fight for its rights, it would be an injustice to the next generation, he added.

Mr. Shivakumar termed it unfortunate that Masthamma, a Rajyotsava award recipient, continues to live in a hut without proper housing, and demanded that she deserves a house and that one should be constructed at the earliest. He directed the officials concerned to look into the matter.

On the occasion, the MLC received a memorandum containing 20 demands from representatives of the community. Mr. Shivakumar assured them that it would be forwarded to the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary of the State.

Office-bearers of the DEED institution, including Mr. Srikanth, and local leaders of the Adivasi community were present.
