The India Meteorological Department has predicted a below-normal monsoon for this year, with rainfall likely at 92% of the Long Period Average (LPA) during the June–September season.
The initial projection, which carries a model margin of error (+/-5%), points to a potentially weak monsoon, with lingering El Niño conditions seen as a key risk factor that could affect rainfall, agriculture and water levels.
