Monsoon Updates: Delhi, Mumbai Rain

Monsoon Updates: Several areas in the national capital received moderate to heavy rainfall on Monday as overcast skies dominated much of the day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next two days in Delhi.

The city is expected to remain mostly cloudy through the week, with intermittent light showers likely until July 27.

According to IMD, the prevailing conditions are due to a cyclonic circulation over west Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Pakistan, along with an active monsoon trough extending from Jammu to the Bay of Bengal.

Rainfall on Monday varied across locations, with the Ridge station recording the highest at 29.6 mm, followed by 1.7 mm at Rajghat.

The IMD’s seven-day forecast suggests moderate rainfall on July 22 and 23, with a gradual decline in intensity afterwards. However, isolated thunderstorms and lightning may continue.

Mumbai Orange Alert

IMD has issued warnings for heavy rainfall across several regions in the country, placing Mumbai under an orange alert today due to intense rain activity.

In Mumbai, the IMD has issued alerts for several areas, including Santacruz, Borivali, Mulund, Powai, Chembur, Worli, and Colaba.

Alerts have also been extended to Raigad Reserve, Alibag, and Shrivardhan in coastal Maharashtra. These regions are likely to experience overcast skies and very heavy rainfall, with intensity expected to exceed 15 mm per hour.

In addition to Maharashtra, heavy showers have been forecast in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, as well as coastal Karnataka, Goa, and Gujarat.

Orange and yellow alerts have been issued in various states, with most of the Konkan coast under a yellow alert as heavy rains continue to affect areas along the Arabian Sea.
