A new poll has found that most Americans are unhappy with President Donald Trump’s handling of the country, particularly on everyday issues such as prices, jobs, and international relations.

Public dissatisfaction

The ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll, conducted via Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel just before the Supreme Court cancelled Trump’s earlier global tariffs, found widespread disapproval:

  1. About two out of three Americans disapprove of his handling of inflation.
  2. Six out of ten disapprove of his tariffs on imported goods.
  3. 62% disapprove of his management of foreign relations.
  4. 58% oppose his approach to immigration.
  5. 57% feel the overall economy could be handled better.

On none of these issues did Trump receive clear approval.

Distrust of both parties

Americans also expressed distrust of Democrats in Congress. When asked who they trust more to solve the country’s problems, 33% chose Trump, 31% chose Democrats, and 31% said “neither." The poll highlighted dissatisfaction with both sides of the political spectrum.

Party divisions

Trump received his weakest ratings from Democrats and independents, who mostly disapproved of him on every issue. Republicans were divided- those strongly supporting the MAGA movement largely approved of his actions, while non-MAGA Republicans were more critical, particularly on inflation and foreign policy. Overall, Trump’s disapproval rating stood at about 60%, one of the highest during his second term and similar to his rating when he left office in 2021.

Economic concerns

Views on the economy remained negative. Nearly half of Americans said things have worsened since Trump took office, while only three in ten said the economy had improved. Just 22% felt financially better off, with most saying their situation was the same or worse.

Trust issues

The poll raised questions about Trump’s fitness for office. Over half said he lacks the mental sharpness needed to be president, and about half questioned his physical health. Republicans mostly disagreed, but Democrats and independents shared these concerns.

Trust was another major concern: around seven in ten Americans said Trump is not honest or trustworthy. Many also believed he is using the presidency to benefit himself and that he has exceeded his legal powers.

Opposition to specific actions

Most Americans opposed cutting back on recommended vaccines for children and did not support using the US military to force changes in other countries. Many also felt the administration has not been transparent on sensitive matters, including the Jeffrey Epstein files.

The survey included more than 2,500 adults across the US and highlighted a deeply divided and dissatisfied public.
