New Delhi: Motorola’s first-ever laptop, the Motobook 60, which was introduced at pricing of Rs 60,000. And now currently, it’s available for under Rs 40,000 during several sales, by making it the most affordable OLED laptop in the market. But being from a brand not traditionally known for laptops raised questions about the service and repair support. After extensive daily use, here’s an honest review of what this laptop delivers for the users.
Design
The Motobook 60 breaks away from the typical black and gray laptop aesthetic with its striking blue color that might some users like or not. This bold design choice makes it stand out in any setting, staying true to Motorola’s flashy design philosophy seen in their smartphones.
Unlike the most budget laptops that use the plastic construction with bottom-firing speakers, this laptop features a proper metal build with upward-facing speakers. At just 1.4 kg, it’s incredibly lightweight and portable. The hinge quality remains solid even after nine months of use, opening smoothly with one hand without any creaking sounds. However, there are several minor drawbacks this laptop holds with it. Paint chipping appears along the edges due to the metal construction, and the power button placement could be better it’s easy to accidentally press when moving the laptop or connecting cables. The screen does wobble slightly when used on users lap, though it’s stable on a desk.
Display
The display is where this laptop truly shines. When it is compared to competing laptops in similar price ranges, the Motobook 60 offers a 2K resolution OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate where users gets an proper setup for streaming and gaming or to do their editing in this laptop. The difference is immediately noticeable colors appear vibrant, sharp, and blacks are genuinely black, not the grayish tones seen on standard LCD panels.
With a peak brightness of 400 nits and 100% DCI-P3 color accuracy, the display performs excellently even in direct sunlight and is suitable for photo and video editing. The only downside is its reflective nature, which can be distracting when watching dark movies in brightly lit rooms. The display deserves a 9 out of 10. The upward-facing 2-watt speakers provide clear audio without obstruction, though they lack volume in larger rooms. Speaker quality rates a 6 out of 10.
Performance
Equipped with Intel Core i5-1210H, 16GB DDR5 RAM, and 512GB NVMe storage, the Motobook 60 punches above its weight. For everyday tasks like web browsing, multiple tab management, and video streaming, the laptop performs smoothly without lag. It handles Photoshop editing with multiple layers effortlessly and runs Android Studio with emulators without issues. However, editing long-form 4K content with multiple layers and effects will challenge it.
Gaming is possible through Xbox Cloud Gaming or similar streaming services, as the laptop lacks a dedicated GPU. The integrated Intel Iris GPU can handle lighter games like CS:GO or Valorant at medium to low settings with over 60 fps, but demanding titles require cloud streaming. Performance overall scores a 7 out of 10 for the price point. The keyboard and trackpad fall into mediocre territory. The 60% keyboard layout lacks a numpad, which may inconvenience data entry work or certain gaming scenarios. While the backlit keyboard functions adequately with two brightness levels and auto mode, it’s nothing exceptional.
The trackpad presents a significant issue. After a Windows update, it began experiencing intermittent click registration problems a driver issue that some other users have also reported. While temporarily fixable by reinstalling drivers, the problem recurs. This earns the keyboard and trackpad a 5 out of 10. Battery life also scores 5 out of 10, lasting around four to five hours with maximum brightness during typical use. The redeeming factor is the 65W Type-C charging, allowing users to use the laptop’s charger or your phone’s charger interchangeably.
Final Thought
The Motobook 60 offers exceptional value with its OLED display and solid performance at under Rs 40,000 and at this pricing many users wanted an perfect and balanced laptop then this will be the best choice for them.
