Kanpur: The Cyber Crime Police of the Kanpur Commissionerate arrested a 32-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district on Sunday for allegedly sharing an edited photograph of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s daughter on Facebook.Police said the accused allegedly posted a morphed image accompanied by misleading and offensive remarks.Following a complaint, the Cyber Crime Police Station in Kanpur registered case under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to insulting the modesty of a woman, Section 336(4) of the BNS related to forgery intended to harm a person’s reputation, and Section 66E of the Information Technology Act, which deals with violations of privacy in cyberspace.Investigators examined technical data obtained from the social media platform, along with digital evidence and other electronic records, which led to the identification of the accused -- Nageshwar Singh Baghel (32), a resident of Purwa Kalyanpur village under Panwar police station limits in Rewa.Police commissioner Raghubir Lal said the Kanpur Commissionerate Police are committed to protecting the dignity, safety and privacy of women. He warned that sharing edited images, false information or offensive content on social media that damages a woman’s reputation is a punishable offence and that strict legal action would be taken against offenders.
