With a steady rise in passport applications from Mysuru and Kodagu districts, Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has urged the Union Ministry of External Affairs to upgrade the existing Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in Mysuru into a full-fledged Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) with Tatkal facilities.

The demand was raised during Mr. Wadiyar’s visit to the office of External Affairs Minister in New Delhi, where he submitted a memorandum to the Minister through the officials highlighting the sharp increase in passport applications from the region.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, Mr. Wadiyar noted that Mysuru, emerging as one of the fastest-growing cities in Karnataka, has witnessed a significant rise in outbound travel for higher education, IT employment, tourism and overseas job opportunities. However, the current POPSK operates with limited capacity and does not offer Tatkal services, compelling applicants to travel to Bengaluru to meet urgent passport requirements.

Proposal to shift and upgrade centre

The MP has requested that the existing POPSK be shifted to the passport office premises at Ittigegud in the heart of the city and upgraded into a comprehensive PSK to cater to growing demand.

“Establishing a full-fledged PSK in Mysuru will substantially improve service delivery and reduce dependency on Bengaluru centres,” Mr. Wadiyar stated.

Officials who received the memorandum assured that the proposal would be examined and appropriate action taken, according to the MP.

Mega passport camp for Kodagu

Mr. Wadiyar has also appealed to the Ministry to organise a mega passport mela in Kodagu district, pointing out that residents currently have to travel to Mysuru or Bengaluru even for routine passport services.

“”The authorities have responded positively and assured that steps would be taken to organise a passport camp in Kodagu at the earliest,”” he added.
