MP urges Centre to lift restrictions on LPG cylinder bookings

Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, has submitted a letter to the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, demanding the immediate withdrawal of current restrictions imposed on domestic LPG cylinder refill bookings.

In his communication, the MP highlighted that the minimum waiting period between successive bookings, currently set at 25 days for urban areas and 45 days for rural regions, was introduced amid concerns over global supply chain disruptions and escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which threatened to impact local LPG availability.

However, the central government itself has recently clarified that the country’s domestic LPG supply chain has completely stabilised, with adequate stock currently available nationwide.

Given these official assurances that the supply crisis has passed, there is no longer any justification for continuing these temporary restrictive measures, which have outlived their original purpose.

In his letter Mr Suresh pointed out that the ongoing booking freeze creates significant hardship for larger families, households completely dependent on LPG for daily cooking, and consumers residing in rural sectors.
