Mumbai Man Dies 10 Days After His Two-Wheeler Was Hit By SUV Driven By Minor, Wife Remains Critical

A 33-year-old man died ten days after a scooter he was riding was hit by an SUV allegedly driven by a minor in Mumbai’s Vidyavihar area.

A 33-year-old man died on Sunday, ten days after he sustained serious injuries when a sport utility vehicle (SUV) allegedly driven by a minor rammed into his scooter in Mumbai.

The deceased was identified as Dhurmil Patel. His wife, Minal Patel, who was riding pillion at the time of the accident, remains in critical condition, news agency PTI reported.

The accident took place on February 5 near Somaiya College in the Vidyavihar area when a speeding Kia Seltos, allegedly driven by a minor, crashed into the couple’s scooter.

Both Dhurmil and Minal Patel suffered grievous injuries in the collision and were rushed to the hospital for treatment, PTI reported, quoting the police.

According to the official, the SUV involved in the accident was allegedly owned by the minor’s father, Valji Raja Bhushan.

Police have registered a case at Tilak Nagar police station against the minor, while his father has also been booked for allegedly allowing an underage person to drive the vehicle.

With Dhurmil Patel succumbing to his injuries on Sunday, police said the First Information Report (FIR), which was initially registered for causing injuries, will now be upgraded to include relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to causing death.

As part of the investigation, officials conducted a site inspection and examined CCTV footage from the area to determine the speed of the vehicle and reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the crash.

The footage was being analysed to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident, the police official said.

Police added that further investigation into the case was underway.
