Murder convict escapes from Chittorgarh open jail

Bhilwara: A murder convict serving life sentence escaped from an open prisoner camp under Chittorgarh District Prison Friday morning, prompting police to launch a search operation. The jail administration lodged a complaint at Chittorgarh’s Kotwali police station after the prisoner was found missing during a routine headcount.According to Kotwali SHO Tulsiram Prajapat, jail guard Vedram Chaudhary reported that Lalit Meena alias Lalshankar alias Lala, a resident of Udaipur district, was lodged in the open jail. During the 6am roll call, prison staff found one inmate missing. A recount was conducted, but the prisoner could not be traced, following which authorities informed police.Police registered a case and began searching for the absconding prisoner.Jail officials said Lalit Meena was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 on Dec 18, 2019.
