The district administration will celebrate the State-level birth anniversary of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar on June 4 at the Kalamandira.
Presiding over the preparatory meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday, Additional Deputy Commissioner Aishwarya R. said Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar was an exceptional leader whose contributions to industry, education, irrigation, and agriculture more than a century ago were immense. She said the celebrations would be organised meaningfully so that his contributions are known to every section of society, and appealed to the public to participate in large numbers.
A procession would be held, beginning from the premises of the Lakshminarayanaswamy Temple after floral tributes are offered to the portrait of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. The procession will feature a mounted police contingent, police band performances, dollu kunitha and various cultural troupes. A special group singing programme on Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar will be organised at K.R. Circle. Floral tributes will also be paid at his statue during the procession.
Competitions including painting, quiz, and essay writing will be conducted for students in two age groups — 7 to 14 years and 15 to 18 years. Winners will be honoured during the celebrations, according to a press release.
Representatives of various organisations suggested organising lectures on Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, screening documentaries on him at public circles, schools and colleges, and celebrating the Jayanti at the gram panchayat level.
