Namo Bharat vs Meerut Metro: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro service to the nation on Sunday, marking a major boost to regional connectivity in Uttar Pradesh.
In January 2025, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Delhi section of the RRTS from Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh to New Ashok Nagar. Today, PM Modi will inaugurate the remaining stretches of India’s first Regional RRTS, which includes a 5-km section between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and 21-km section between Meerut South and Modipuram in Meerut.
With today’s inauguration, the full 82-km Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor will become operational. It is a semi high-speed rail corridor for regional transit purposes, and will connect the National Capital Region (NCR) cities of Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut. Part of the RapidX project managed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), it is the first out of three rapid rail corridors planned under the first phase.
The integrated network is expected to cut travel time between Delhi and Meerut to around 55 minutes.
On the other hand, the 23-km Meerut Metro line, to be operated from Meerut South to the Modipuram Depot, is being projected as the fastest metro network.
