Nashik: District collector Ayush Prasad has decided to carry out a geological survey of the areas around a govt Ashramshala in Bhuwan village of Peth taluka and Neel Parvat in Trimbakeshwar taluka to mitigate potential landslide threats. The decision follows the collector’s recent visit to Peth taluka, where it was reported that a massive boulder from an adjacent hill had rolled into the playground of the Tribal Development Department’s residential school, housing over 500 students.“The collector visited the school and, while taking note of the Jan incident when a boulder came down rolling onto the premises, decided to conduct a land survey to assess landslide threats during heavy rain.
As this process takes time, the school administration has been asked to ensure safety of children during downpours,” Peth tehsildar Shivaji Gavli said.As a precautionary measure until the survey is completed, the administration has directed the school authorities to evacuate students from the hostel building closest to the hill and shift them to safer structures within the campus during intense rainfall.Additionally, the district administration will survey Neel Parvat in Trimbakeshwar, which hosts the prominent Shree Panch Dashnam Juna Akhada. Recent construction activities have been observed at the base of the hill, which is expected to witness massive footfall of seers and devotees during the upcoming Kumbh Mela, scheduled to coincide with the monsoon season.“The administration will carry out the survey of this location as well and take all measures required to ensure the safety of seers and the people who live at the base of the hill,” a senior district official said.
