Nashik police chase leads to identify deceased woman found stuffed in bag

Nashik: A day after the body of an unidentified woman was found stuffed inside a luggage bag near the Godavari river in Tapovan, the Adgaon police on Wednesday said they are close to establishing her identity, with multiple leads currently being chased.The woman, believed to be around 30 years old, was found dumped by the roadside on Tuesday morning, triggering a murder investigation.Senior inspector Sanjay Pise said, “We are cross-checking missing person reports at various police stations across the city, district, and neighbouring areas based on the woman’s physical description. Additionally, we are scanning CCTV footage from roads leading to the spot where the bag was found.”Postmortem findings have confirmed that the victim died due to violent neck asphyxia, indicating she was strangled.The police said the body had been wrapped in a grain bag before being stuffed into a travel suitcase.Pise added that investigators have received “certain leads” and are working to verify them. Officials indicated that identifying the victim remains key to cracking the case.Police sources said once her identity is confirmed, it will help trace her background and establish possible motives and suspects, significantly advancing the probe.

The investigation is being carried out under the guidance of police commissioner Sandeep Karnik and other senior officials.Following the recovery of the body, the Adgaon police registered a case of murder against an unidentified person.
