The National Lok Adalat held on Saturday across 31 courts in Ballari and Vijayanagara districts witnessed the amicable settlement of a large number of cases through compromise.
Principal District and Sessions Judge K.G. Shanti, who also served as Chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), actively participated in the proceedings and personally oversaw the disposal of cases at the District Court complex on Talur Road in Ballari.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Shanti observed that settling disputes through mutual compromise in the Lok Adalat provides litigants with an opportunity to lead a peaceful and meaningful life. Referring to a matrimonial dispute that was amicably resolved at the Family Court, she said: “A good life is possible when trust and mutual faith exist between husband and wife.”
Pointing out that family and property disputes often cause unrest in society, Ms. Shanti stressed the need to shed individual egos and embrace collective harmony. “If we think in terms of ‘we’ instead of ‘I’, we can lead a life of peace,” she remarked.
Justice Shanti urged litigants to actively participate in Lok Adalats for quick and affordable justice. She noted that pre-litigation cases too were being taken up for settlement in the Adalat and the response from the public was encouraging. “With the cooperation of judges, lawyers, court staff and other departments, efforts will continue to resolve pending disputes through conciliation in the days to come,” she added.
On the occasion, families that resolved their disputes through compromise were felicitated. Senior Civil Judge and DLSA Member-Secretary Rajesh N. Hosamane and several others were present.
