NDC calls on government to cancel plans to set up Eco-park at Ooty Race Course

The Nilgiri Documentation Centre (NDC) has criticised the government’s proposal to create an “Eco-park” at the Ooty Race Course, arguing that the proposal goes against the government’s own stated goal to decarbonise the district.

“The District Decarbonisation Action Plan is supposed to be actively working towards making the Nilgiris a carbon-neutral district (or carbon-negative) by focusing on forest restoration and protection of existing sholas, grasslands and other open spaces to boost natural carbon sinks,” said Venugopal Dharmalingam, honorary director of the NDC, adding that other strategies, such as E-passes to reduce traffic inflow have been implemented to reach this goal.
