Javelin throw superstar Neeraj Chopra will have his task cut out when he takes the field in the Diamond League final in Zurich. The reigning world champion will be aiming to win the final but faces tough competition from the likes of Anderson Peters and Julian Weber.

The 27-year-old Indian last won the Diamond League final in 2022 and finished runners-up in the next two editions. This time, he qualified for the finale with a fourth-placed finish having taken part in two of the four qualifying events of the series.

It was in the Doha leg that Neeraj achieved his goal of hitting the 90m mark when he finished the event with a throw of 90.23m. He was second behind Germany’s Weber.

Neeraj won the Paris leg with a throw of 88.16m.

What Is Diamond League?

The Diamond League is an elite one-day meeting series in global athletics held annually. At the end of each meeting, the top eight athletes are awarded points depending on where they finish in their respective discipline. The top six in the field events, top eight for 100m-800m and top ten in 1500m and long-distance events qualify for the Final.

The DL Final is a winner-takes-all competition, with champions crowned in each of the 32 events. Each winner receives the iconic Diamond Trophy and a wild card entry for the World Championships.
