A woman who was preparing for her National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba was allegedly abducted, held captive for 16 days, and subjected to brutal torture and sexual harassment before being rescued by the police.
The incident took place on April 30. While returning from her routine coaching classes, a few men, led by Mohit Srivastava, Ankit Srivastava, and Allu Rajput, came in a car and allegedly abducted her. Inside the car, the gang gave her sedative injections, assaulted her sexually, and also took obscene photos and videos.
During her captivity, the gang repeatedly gave her sedative injections, branded her with lit cigarettes, and inflicted her with knife strokes. The repeated sexual assault by Mohit also continued.
FORCED THE SURVIVOR FOR MARRIAGE
On May 13, the woman was taken to Prayagraj, where several of Mohit’s family members, along with another man named Bhanwa Rajput, appeared. Together, they tried to coerce the survivor to marry Mohit.
When the woman rejected, they showed the photo of her brother and allegedly threatened to kill him. In addition, they also asked that if the woman agrees to marry Mohit, they would delete all the obscene photos and videos.
POLICE FORMED FOUR TEAMS, RESCUED HER ON MAY 16
As the survivor’s mother filed a missing persons complaint on May 1, the local police registered a case and formed four special teams to track her down.
After a two-week-long investigation, the woman was recovered from Prayagraj.
Vandana Singh, a senior police officer in the state, said, “Three accused have already been taken into custody for questioning and will be produced before the court soon. The special teams are conducting further search operations, and the rest of the accused will be arrested soon.”
CONGRESS CRITICISES YOGI GOVT
The incident has triggered widespread public outrage and political reactions. The Congress party has targeted the state government over the incident.
In addition, Ajay Rai, the President of UP Congress, spoke with the woman. A party delegation will meet the woman soon.
