In a shocking incident, a three-and-a-half-year girl was allegedly raped and murdered by her neighbour in Sector 37 of Gurgaon. The accused lured the child away from her home in a nearby village, officials reported on Friday.
The police arrested the suspect, who confessed to the crime during the interrogation.
The case came to light on Thursday night when the police received a complaint about a missing minor girl from Mohammadpur Jharsa village. The family accused a local man of luring the child away.
The accused, a scrap collector from Bihar residing in Gurgaon, was arrested within an hour of the FIR being filed at the Sector 37 police station.
A spokesperson for Gurugram police revealed that, during questioning, the suspect admitted to luring the girl to a secluded area in Sector 37 on Thursday evening.
He then raped the child and strangled her to death to eliminate evidence. Further investigation is ongoing.
