New-generation courses aligned with emerging trends and modern technologies, foreign language proficiency courses, and expansion of online and add-on courses figured in the Budget of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) for the 2026-27 fiscal.
The Budget, which expected an income of ₹165.8 crore and an expenditure of ₹177.1 crore, was approved at the Syndicate meeting held on the main campus at Kalady on Tuesday. K. Premkumar, MLA, convener of the finance standing committee of the Syndicate, presented the Budget.
The introduction of the BA–BEd integrated teacher education programme with an intake of 50 seats approved by the National Council for Technical Education, allocation of ₹1 crore to launch new online/add-on programmes under the Online Learning Centre, setting up a green and sustainable campus, formation of a green audit team, and implementation of projects to transform the university into a carbon-neutral institution were some of the key proposals.
Other proposals that found place in the Budget include modernisation of existing smart classrooms across departments and regional centres, establishment of five state-of-the-art smart classrooms equipped with advanced technologies, allocation of ₹1.5 crore for IT infrastructure enhancement and installation of new servers, inclusive and student-friendly infrastructure, and setting up model women-friendly rooms in all university buildings.
The allocation for various projects include ₹3 crore for research fellowships, ₹60 lakh for Sanskrit encouragement scholarships, ₹1 crore for library development, ₹50 lakh for national and international seminars, ₹25 lakh for the Research & Development Cell, ₹1.4 crore for the Sree Sankaracharya International Study Centre, ₹11 lakh for campus union activities, and ₹20 lakh each for sports training and arts festivals.
