New song Uma Eseche captures the spirit of Durga Puja

Soumita Saha's new song, 'Uma Eseche,' blends tradition and contemporary rhythm to celebrate Durga Puja. The song, written, composed, and sung by Saha, captures the essence of Goddess Durga's homecoming, drawing from mythology and incorporating the iconic dhaak beats.

Durga Puja and music have always gone hand in hand in Bengal’s cultural tradition, and this year the festive mood is enriched with the release of Uma Eseche. The song sung by Soumita Saha is a blend of tradition and rhythm, weaving together the timeless beats of the dhaaker baajna with the festive spirit of a contemporary dance number. "It is essentially a colloquial Agomoni, celebrating the joyous homecoming of Giriraj’s daughter, Uma, whom we fondly worship as Goddess Durga," said Soumita. The track captures the essence of Goddess Durga’s homecoming, drawing from mythology where Uma, daughter of Giriraj Himalaya, returns to her father’s home during Ashwin. Entirely written, composed, and sung by the artist, the song is a heartfelt tribute to the festival. A highlight of the composition is the use of dhaak beats, the percussion sound inseparable from Durga Puja, along with references to Daaker Shaj, a decorative style from the British era. The accompanying music video, created in a plastic doll animation style, showcases festive elements like dhaak, conch shells, and dhunuchi dance.
