Newborn’s body found in garbage heap, couple booked

The Perumbavoor police on Monday booked a migrant labourer couple on the charge of killing their newborn baby at Kanjirakad near Perumbavoor. The accused were Majarul Sekh and Sheela from Murshidabad in West Bengal, a police officer said.

The police found the body of the newborn from a garbage heap on the premises of the couple’s house after neighbours alerted them about the incident. The police took the man into custody, while the woman was admitted to the Kalamassery Medical College Hospital. The accused have been charged with murder under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The officer said the man was yet to confess to the crime, and that the woman’s statement was yet to be recorded.
