Times News NetworkKanpur: A young woman and her lover committed suicide in Banda, where their bodies were found hanging together from a tree with a saree noose in the Marka police station area, about 55 km from the district headquarters.The bodies were found on Wednesday morning in a field about 200 metres from the village after the families searched for them through the night. Villagers informed the family members, who said the woman had left home at night, and they learnt of her death from villagers in the morning.The woman was identified as Roshni (19), daughter of Rajkumar Yadav, a farmer from Andhav village. Rajkumar has four daughters and one son.The man was identified as Subhash (20), son of Ghanshyam Paswan, a labourer, whose family lived about 150 metres from Roshni’s house.The villagers said that Subhash and Roshni had been in a relationship for two years. The families were aware of the relationship but were not willing to agree to the marriage. The boy had asked his family several times for permission to marry, but his father refused. The families did not accept the relationship due to caste differences.
The girl’s family arranged her marriage elsewhere. On May 7, Roshni was married to Jag Prasad Yadav of Bhoori village in the Bisanda police station area. Jag Prasad worked as a labourer outside the village. Thirteen-days after her wedding, Roshni died by suicide along with Subhash.After the wedding procession arrived on May 7 and Roshni was sent off, her family went to bring her back for the Chauthi ritual and brought her home on May 16.
She had been at her parents’ home since then.On Tuesday night at around 10 pm, Roshni dressed up and left the house wearing all her jewellery. The family did not know where she was going and assumed she had gone to meet someone in the neighbourhood. When she did not return until late at night, the family began searching for her. Subhash was also missing from his home, and both families searched for them through the night.On Wednesday morning, villagers found both bodies hanging from a babool tree in a field about 200 metres from the village.
Both had hanged themselves using a single saree as a noose. A large crowd gathered and the families reached the spot.Marka police station personnel arrived with a forensic team and collected evidence. At 2 pm, police filled out the punchnama and sent both bodies to Banda medical college for post-mortem examination.Additional superintendent of police Shivraj Singh said the bodies of a young man and a young woman were found hanging from a tree. The field unit and forensic team have conducted an investigation. The punchnama and post-mortem proceedings of the bodies are being carried out. Further action will be taken on the basis of the written complaint from the families.
