Brazilian football superstar Neymar Jr. has once again shown that his influence extends far beyond the football pitch, reportedly donating USD 250,000 to support emergency rescue and humanitarian relief efforts following the devastating twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela.According to El Sumario, Neymar's contribution will help provide essential supplies, including food, clean drinking water, temporary shelter and other emergency assistance to thousands of families affected by the disaster. "My heart goes out to the people of Venezuela," Neymar said as quoted by El Sumario.com, while expressing his hope that this contribution would bring strength and relief to the affected families. The twin earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, caused widespread destruction across Venezuela, triggering multiple aftershocks that further complicated rescue efforts. Reports indicate that at least 1,430 people have lost their lives, while more than 3,238 others have been injured. Over 3,100 families have reportedly been displaced, with international humanitarian agencies and governments stepping in to provide aid.
Among the countries extending support is India, which launched Operation Amistad, sending 66 tonnes of relief material along with a specialised medical team to assist the affected regions. The humanitarian gesture comes as Neymar continues his recovery with the Brazilian national team at the FIFA World Cup.The 34-year-old forward missed Brazil's opening two group-stage matches due to injury but made his return as a late substitute during the team's comfortable 3-0 victory over Scotland.
His brief appearance marked an important step in his comeback ahead of the knockout stages.
Neymar nears full fitness
Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Neymar's condition has improved significantly over the past week and suggested the veteran attacker could feature for longer against Japan."In the last week, his progress has been significant," Ancelotti told reporters, as quoted by Reuters."Unfortunately, he could not play longer than 15 minutes before, but he is now doing well enough to play more."Brazil finished top of Group C with seven points after a 1-1 draw against Morocco followed by consecutive 3-0 victories over Haiti and Scotland.
