Neymar hints at possible retirement by December, focusing on Santos FC and the Brazilian national team.

It feels like the end of an era might be edging closer.

Neymar has admitted retirement is a real possibility, and that the decision could come as soon as the end of this year.

Speaking to CazeTV, the Brazilian star made it clear he’s taking nothing for granted.

“I don’t know what is going to happen from now on, I don’t know what will happen next year. It may be that December comes and I want to retire. Now I’m living year by year," he said.

“This year is very important for Santos and for the Brazilian national team, because of the World Cup, so for me it is also a very big challenge."

Living Year by Year

Back at Santos FC, Neymar insists he has managed his comeback carefully after a brutal ACL and meniscus tear in October 2023 ended his last Brazil appearance in devastation.

“I wanted to play again this season 100%, that’s why I kept myself in some games, I took care of myself a little more," he explained. “Many people say a lot of nonsense, but they do not know what happens on a day-to-day basis."

“Santos did very good planning… I ended up waiting a bit to come back 100%, without pain, without fear, without anything, and I managed to come back very well in this last game."

The message is clear: this isn’t about noise. It’s about readiness.

“With a lot of training, with a lot of perseverance… I will be able to reach my 100%. That’s what I want."

One Last World Cup Push

For now, retirement remains at arm’s length, largely because of one goal: the 2026 World Cup.

Sources in Brazil suggest everything hinges on one call-up to the Seleção. Contracts and legacy debates can wait. If Brazil calls, Neymar stays.
