Ottawa Senators defenseman Thomas Chabot is expected to miss several months as he underwent surgery to repair a broken bone in his right arm sustained on a cross-check from the New York Rangers captain J.T.Miller, league reports confirmed on Thursday.

The player is expected to miss atleast four-to-eight weeks for his recovery from the major injury. It is also important to note that the blueliner will remain away for the remainder of the regular season and potentially well into the postseason. Chabot's presence will be heavily missed as he has seven goals and 31 points in 55 games this season while averaging 22:34 of ice time. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Jake Sanderson will return for a two-game road trip to Florida that begins at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.

Earlier, Coach Travis Green also stated that the defenseman could return later this week, as per the NHL.

This was confirmed and announced by the head coach of the Senators, Travis Green, on Thursday.As per TSN, Chabot had a successful surgery on his right arm on Thursday and is expected to miss anywhere from four to eight weeks.

Meanwhile, the first round of the playoffs is set to begin in just over three weeks on April 18.Previously, the 29‑year‑old blueliner, who sustained the injury on a cross‑check from New York Rangers captain J. T. Miller on March 23, left the game late in the first period after absorbing a forceful cross‑check to the right arm from Miller. He was seen immediately grabbing the limb in pain before skating straight to the bench and did not return there after.

Chabot is one of the most promising players of the Senators. This season, he has 31 points (seven goals, 24 assists) and is plus-6 in 55 games while averaging 22:34 of ice time, helping Ottawa (38-24-9) hold the second wild card into the playoffs from the Eastern Conference with 11 games to play.The Ottawa Senators have already faced a big blow due to multiple injuries this season, as prominent players like Chabot, Sanderson, and Dennis Gilbert were sidelined from the team for several days.
