The Colorado Avalanche have signed defenseman Gustav Stjernberg to a two-year contract after the Swedish blueliner completed his collegiate career at Bowling Green State University.
This was announced by the club on Friday. As per reports, the deal will kick in for the start of the 2026-27 season, and Stjernberg will play on an AHL contract for the Avalanche’s minor-league affiliate, Colorado Eagles, for the remainder of this season. The exact financial details of the deal have not yet been released.According to reports, Stjernberg has spent the last three seasons with Bowling Green, where he also served as an alternate captain in the 2025-26 season.
In 25 games this year, the Swedish defenseman recorded six goals and four assists for 10 points. Over his three-year collegiate career, he totaled 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points in 86 games.

The Colorado Avalanche have recently signed the Swedish defenseman Gustav Stjernberg to a two-year entry-level contract. The deal begins in the 2026-27 season, while Stjernberg will join the AHL’s Colorado Eagles for the rest of the current campaign on a separate contract.
The club announced the same on Friday, and also noted that Stjernberg’s NHL deal will kick in next season, giving the organization a chance to get an early look at him in the AHL before he officially becomes part of their NHL roster picture. However, after the announcement of the signing of the defenseman, the financial terms were not disclosed, and are still in line with team policy.
Stjernberg is considered a coming off player, who has played for a three-year career at Bowling Green State University.

His strong hold on the game and impressive career stats made him join the league with the Colorado Avalanche.
