In a moment that blended academic excellence with a heartfelt call to action, Nita M Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate (DLitt Honoris Causa) by the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar on March 18. The honour was awarded in recognition of her transformative contributions to education, healthcare, and social development across India.

Addressing a massive gathering of students and dignitaries, Dr Nita Ambani delivered a stirring speech that transcended traditional acceptance remarks. She spoke passionately about the philosophy of “Seva" (service), describing it as the foundation upon which a more equitable world must be built. Reflecting on her visit to KIIT and the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), she praised the institutions as “modern temples of education" that exemplify how dedicated efforts can uplift the most marginalised communities.

Her message was rooted in the belief that compassion and peace are not just personal virtues but essential global forces. She emphasised that the power of education lies in its ability to foster empathy and provide a platform for collective healing. “Success doesn’t mean achieving things only for yourself," she noted, echoing the sentiment that true fulfilment comes from bringing light into the lives of others.

The crux of her address was a direct appeal to the youth of India. Dr Ambani urged the students to dream big while remaining anchored in the path of righteousness. She articulated a vision of India as a global force for unity, suggesting that the nation’s greatest export should be its unique capacity for inclusive progress and humanitarian leadership.

By challenging the students to shape the “conscience of the world," she highlighted the role of the younger generation in navigating a complex global landscape with values of peace and unity. The ceremony, attended by KIIT Founder Dr Achyuta Samanta and Nobel Laureate Prof Mohan Munasinghe, served as a powerful reminder that India’s future depends as much on the character of its citizens as it does on its industrial and technological growth.
