The senior management of NMDC reviewed a series of strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, promoting sustainable mining practices, and improving employee welfare during a visit to the Donimalai Complex in Ballari district.

The visit provided an opportunity to assess the progress of key projects that are expected to transform the Donimalai Complex into a future-ready mining hub while strengthening NMDC’s position as India’s largest iron ore producer.

During the review, the management examined the ongoing capacity expansion and infrastructure development works aimed at achieving a production target of 10 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) from the Kumaraswamy Mine and 17 MTPA from the Donimalai Complex. The initiatives form part of NMDC’s broader vision of becoming a 100 MTPA mining company.

The team also reviewed efforts to utilise iron ore containing up to 35% Fe, iron ore slimes, and low-grade iron-bearing materials such as Banded Hematite Jasper and Banded Hematite Quartzite.

The media note released on Friday stated that NMDC, through beneficiation and scientific mineral processing, is converting such underutilised resources into valuable raw material, thereby improving mineral conservation, reducing waste generation, and supporting the raw material requirements of the country’s steel sector.

Another key initiative reviewed during the visit was the automated gate management system at the Kumaraswamy Mine. The digital system enables the real-time monitoring and verification of material movement, improving transparency and efficiency in iron ore dispatches while reducing manual intervention.

NMDC Chairman and Managing Director Amitava Mukherjee, along with functional directors, also inaugurated newly developed infrastructure facilities, including high-rise residential towers, reflecting the company’s commitment to employee welfare and community development.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mukherjee said NMDC aimed to make the Donimalai Complex a model mining facility embodying the highest standards of responsible mining, innovation and employee welfare. He said the company remained committed to supplying high-quality iron ore to the steel industry while maximising the value of every resource through technology and innovation.
