Senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor drew laughter online after reacting to a post that listed him and actor Priyanka Chopra as speakers at the India Conference 2026 held at Harvard University in the United States.
The annual conference, organised by Harvard students, focuses on Indian business, policy and culture. This year’s edition took place on February 14 and 15 and aimed to discuss India’s diversity and its growing global influence, according to the event’s official website.
Tharoor’s Humorous Response
When a social media post mentioned both Tharoor and Priyanka Chopra as speakers, the Thiruvananthapuram MP jokingly pointed out that they did not appear together on stage.
He wrote on X, “But not together, alas!"
Priyanka Chopra — an actor, producer and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador — was among the featured speakers along with Mahima Kaul, Director of Global Affairs at Netflix India.
Social Media Reactions
Tharoor’s brief remark triggered a wave of humorous replies and memes online.
One user commented, “Thankfully, the organisers realised the pitfall in the NICK of time," referring to Priyanka’s husband Nick Jonas.
Another wrote, “Hahahaha, still young at heart; age is just a number," while a third added, “Probably, the first time you missed a chance to exude your charm. Nick is lucky."
About The Conference
The theme this year was “The India We Imagine", where speakers discussed ideas, challenges and opportunities shaping the country’s future.
Tharoor’s son Ishaan Tharoor spoke on global geopolitics and his daughter-in-law Bhumi Tharoor addressed diaspora issues.
Sharing his experience, Tharoor wrote on X that it was “wonderful to see the packed houses and the amazing level of interest from attendees in all matters Indian."
In another post he added he found the enthusiasm among young participants inspiring and congratulated the student organisers for their efforts.
