‘Nothing To Believe They Are True’: UK Minister Casts Doubt On Reports Of Starmer's Resignation

Peter Kyle said speculation about Starmer’s future had grown in recent days but stressed that he had “nothing to believe” the reports were true.

British Business Secretary Peter Kyle on Sunday dismissed reports that Prime Minister Keir Starmer is preparing to resign, saying he has seen no evidence to support claims that an announcement could come as early as Monday.

Speaking to Sky News, Kyle said speculation about Starmer’s future had grown in recent days but stressed that he had “nothing to believe" the reports were true.

His comments came after newspaper reports suggested Starmer was considering stepping down and setting out a timetable for his departure.

Kyle Defends Starmer

Asked directly about the reports, Kyle said: “I have nothing to believe that they are true. I am seeing a lot of speculation out there."

He revealed that he had held a “frank" and lengthy conversation with Starmer on Friday. However, Kyle declined to discuss the details of the discussion, saying only that the prime minister’s focus remained on the country rather than himself.

“Not once did he ever ask about self-interest. It was always about the country," Kyle said.

Kyle also said Starmer remains focused on his work despite the ongoing political uncertainty. “Today, as in every other day I’ve ever known Keir, he is out there working hard," he said, adding that the prime minister was taking time to reflect on the political challenges and opportunities facing his government.

“He is trying to create the space where he can think and reflect on the political realities and challenges – and the opportunities – that are before us," he added.
