The NRI Commission for Non-Resident Indians (Keralites) will soon launch an advanced website, developed in collaboration with C-DIT. The Commission aims to make its operations more transparent and faster through the website, and the final round of discussions for this has been completed, said the Commission Chairperson Justice (Retd) Sophie Thomas at a press conference held in Thiruvananthapuram on the occasion of the 10th NRI Adalat.

The new website has been designed in a way that will be very useful for expatriates. Expatriates can file complaints online from any country without having to come to the commission office. They can follow up on the current status of the filed complaints. It also has the facility to download the final orders in cases.

Since the new commission took office last August, it has been successfully conducting adalats in various districts every month. With the completion of the adalats in Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts in the next two months, the commission will have successfully completed a round of adalats in the entire State. The next adalat is scheduled to be in Pathanamthitta and in Alappuzha in July.

The commission has recommended action at the DGP level against fake associations indulging in financial frauds by falsely claiming to be government-approved and promising lifetime membership and pension. It has been found that there are fake organisations with up to 30,000 registered members. The commission members said that there is a need to create awareness among the people against such groups.

The commission has also recommended that only organisations with proper registration with NoRKA should be allowed to work among the expatriates and provide assistance. This will completely prevent expatriates from falling into pitfalls, the commission hopes.
