NTR district police launches special safety checks for school, college buses

Vijayawada: The transport department typically conducts fitness inspections for school and college buses. However, this year, the NTR district police commissionerate has initiated a special inspection drive to ensure the safety of students ahead of the new academic year in the city.Traffic police officials conducted extensive checks on buses operated by educational institutions across the city to verify whether they are complying with mandatory safety norms and vehicle fitness regulations. The inspections focused on vehicle fitness, emergency safety measures and driver qualifications.As part of the drive, traffic officials inspected buses belonging to SRK College at Patamata. During the inspections, authorities checked whether the buses possessed valid fitness certificates, insurance and pollution certificates.

Officials also verified the availability of emergency exits, first aid boxes and fire extinguishers in working condition.

Police further examined whether drivers possessed valid heavy vehicle driving licences and had sufficient driving experience to operate school and college buses safely.Traffic officials warned that no negligence involving student safety would be tolerated. Educational institutions were cautioned against operating unfit buses and carrying students beyond seating capacity.

Authorities stated that strict legal action would be initiated against institutions and drivers violating safety regulations.Police said heavy penalties would be imposed on violators and vehicles could also be seized in serious cases. Officials appealed to parents to remain alert and ensure that the buses transporting their children meet all required safety standards.The inspection drive comes ahead of the reopening of schools and colleges, with authorities stressing the need for strict compliance with road safety norms to prevent accidents involving students.
