English Premier League club Nottingham Forest is reportedly considering sacking manager Nuno Espírito Santo in the middle of the 2025-26 season.
According to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, the club is embroiled in tensions and disagreements between Nuno and their famously hands-on owner, Evangelos Marinakis, regarding certain signings in the transfer market. His report said that former Tottenham Hotspur and Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is one of the names being considered at the West Bridgford club.
Santo all but confirmed that his relationship with Marinakis has broken down in his press conference ahead of the clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday.
“I always had a very good relationship with the owner. Last season was very, very, very close, almost [on a] daily basis," he said. “This season, not so well. But I always believe that dialogue, and what you say or your opinions, are always valid. My concern is the squad and the season we have ahead of us. Our relationship has changed. It’s not so close. It’s not on a daily basis. No, it’s not good. I think everyone at the club should be together, but it’s not the reality."
Last season, as Forest narrowly missed out on fifth place in the Premier League (a position not many expected them to reach in the first place), Marinakis was seen engaging in a heated argument with Santo on the pitch after a game. The video went viral and brought in extreme attention on the Greek owner, which has since been followed by Forest promoting him on a lot of their social media posts, raising further questions.
Forest have made a significant outlay this season. Their signings include Omari Hutchinson (₹347 Cr/£29.55m), Dan Ndoye (₹336 Cr/£28.62m), Arnaud Kalimuendo (₹240 Cr/£20.44m), James McAtee (₹204 Cr/£17.38m), Igor Jesus (₹152 Cr/£12.95m), Jair Cunha (₹96 Cr/£8.18m) and Douglas Luiz (Loan fee – ₹24 Cr/£2.04m).
Postecoglou, if such a move even materialises, would bring a contrasting style to Nuno, who’s a more pragmatic and defense-first manager. The former Spurs boss, who led them to their first Europa League title last year, is one of the most dynamic and attack-first coaches in the world.
