Officials directed to upgrade infrastructure in tribal welfare hostels in Annammaya district

Annamayya District Collector Sridhar Chamakuri instructed officials to immediately upgrade infrastructure and welfare measures in all the tribal welfare schools and hostels, besides insisting on maintaining vigilance to eliminate child marriages.

The Collector held a review meeting with headmasters and hostel wardens at the Collectorate here on Saturday. Mr. Sridhar said that students in tribal institutions should be provided with every basic facility for a safe and supportive learning environment. “All pending works in hostels and classrooms must be completed with quality and within the stipulated timeframe,” he said.

The Collector directed the officials of the Education and Social Welfare departments to regularly inspect classrooms and hostels, and ensure that lights, fans, drinking water, and functional toilets are in good use. He informed the District Tribal Welfare Officer to initiate urgent repairs to the infrastructure and also involve donors to garner funds.

Mr. Sridhar insisted that teachers must attend study hours compulsorily and track the attendance of students. “If in any case girls from classes 6 to 10 remain absent for more than two days, the concerned team should personally visit their home and ensure they are brought back to the schools,” he said. The hostel wardens should focus on providing nutritious food for the inmates as per the government‑approved menu, besides organising regular health initiatives, such as administration of deworming tablets and iron supplements, he added.

The Collector also cautioned the officials and local committees to maintain strict vigilance to prevent child marriages. Child marriages are a dangerous practice in society. Any individual, family, or group resorting to the malady would be taken to task as per the law. If found guilty, all governmental benefits to them would be withdrawn,” he said.
