Love him or hate him, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues to etch his name into the pantheon of NBA greats.

The Oklahoma City Thunder superstar delivered yet another standout performance on Monday night, to match a mind-blowing record previously held by the legendary Wilt Chamberlain.

And it all came in classic SGA fashion: with Shai hitting his trademark step-back three-pointer with 2.7 seconds remaining to help OKC secure a nail-biting 129–126 win over the Denver Nuggets.

Matching a Record That Stood Since 1963

Shai finished the night with 35 points, 15 assists and nine rebounds, but the real milestone came earlier in the game.

During the third quarter, SGA reached the 20-point mark for the 126th consecutive game, matching Chamberlain’s incredible streak set between 1961 and 1963.

It’s a record that has stood untouched for more than six decades.

To put the streak into perspective, the all-time leaderboard reads like a who’s who of basketball legends:

  • 126 games: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander / Wilt Chamberlain
  • 92 games: Wilt Chamberlain
  • 79 games: Oscar Robertson
  • 72 games: Michael Jordan / Kevin Durant

One more 20-point performance would see Gilgeous-Alexander stand alone atop the list.

Another Elite Statistical Feat

The Canadian guard also achieved another rare statistical milestone in the same game.

With 35 points and 15 assists without committing a single turnover (yes, ZERO turnovers), Gilgeous-Alexander became just the second player in NBA history to produce those numbers since the 1977-78 season.

The only other player to accomplish the feat? LeBron James, who did it in 2018.

Perfect Timing for the Thunder

The run of form couldn’t come at a better time for Oklahoma City.

The Thunder currently sit atop the NBA Western Conference with a 51–15 record and have gone 6–0 since Gilgeous-Alexander returned from an abdominal strain that previously sidelined him for nine games.

With the playoffs just around the corner, the Thunder will be hoping their MVP-calibre leader can keep the streak alive — and perhaps even make a little more history along the way.
