Oliver Rowland calls second Monaco victory a dream: “You wonder if it’s ever going to happen again”

Winning in Monaco remains one of the greatest dreams for any racing driver, and it was no different for Nissan driver Oliver Rowland. The Briton, who also won the Monaco E-Prix last year, was overjoyed to secure another victory this season.

Days after his Round 10 triumph in front of a star-studded crowd, Rowland reflected on how he managed to win and also set the fastest lap of the race.

Oliver Rowland started from eighth on the grid and stormed to victory in his trademark style. “I think it's every driver’s dream to win in Monaco. I managed it in F2, and again last year, and you wonder if it's ever going to happen again. But it’s a really special feeling. I think the way the race unfolded as well, having to be patient and then kind of attack towards the end, was really nice, and I’m super grateful,” he told FormulaE.com in an interview.“I think it was good because I had to be disciplined in terms of energy. There were a lot of people attacking from very early on, but I think what was a bit better with that race is because they were faster, it caused a bit less carnage. So it was actually a bit safer to be where I was,” he added.

Rowland had to remain extremely disciplined as drivers behind him battled aggressively around the Circuit de Monaco. Recalling a key moment from the race, he revealed, “It was not the race I expected, to be honest, we had to adapt to it.

I mean, I think Nico [Muller] took the Attack Mode on lap three or four. He took six minutes, which was a huge shock. I thought, ‘you’re going to be pretty lonely out there at some point at the front’.

”“The problem is he kind of broke the tow and then second place had no choice but to push back towards him and couldn’t slow the race down too much. I think it was quite a nice race, but I think if the leaders did the race again, they probably wouldn’t do the same,” he explained.Rowland’s victory in Monaco pushed him further up the Formula E Drivers’ Standings.
