A 22-year-old man has been arrested in northeast Delhi for allegedly carrying out hazardous motorcycle stunts and troubling commuters while filming social media reels. The accused, identified as Tushar Puniya, is a resident of Khajuri Khas.
The arrest comes after a video showing the biker’s reckless behaviour went viral on social media on February 16, prompting police to initiate action.
According to officials, the motorcycle used in the incident did not have a registration number plate, raising further concerns about deliberate attempts to avoid identification.
In the widely circulated clip, the man can be seen riding a motorcycle through dense traffic while performing risky manoeuvres.
At several points, he approaches moving vehicles and abruptly opens their doors, including that of a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus.
The actions appear to have been carried out for the purpose of recording attention-grabbing reels.
Police said the behaviour posed a serious threat to public safety, as both passengers and motorists were caught off guard while vehicles were still in motion.
The video shows the biker weaving between vehicles and repeatedly interfering with other commuters, creating the possibility of a major accident.
A senior police officer said authorities registered a case at the New Usmanpur police station soon after the video surfaced online.
“Taking cognisance of the viral reel, a case was registered at New Usmanpur police station, and further investigation was launched," the officer said.
Investigators formed a dedicated team to identify the suspect.
Police examined CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and analysed visuals from the viral clip to establish the biker’s identity.
Following sustained efforts, the accused was traced and apprehended, and the motorcycle allegedly used in the stunt was recovered.
During questioning, police found that the registration plate had been removed intentionally, allegedly to prevent authorities from tracking the vehicle while the stunt was being performed.
Sharing the video on X, Delhi Police underscored that strict action would be taken against those flouting traffic norms.
In its post, the police mentioned, “Action against those who disregard road rules."
“Taking cognizance of the viral video, Thana New Usmanpur has tightened the noose against stunt performers under Section 281 of the Justice Code and the MV Act," the police mentioned.
Officials added that the investigation is continuing to determine whether the accused had been involved in similar incidents earlier.
Police reiterated that dangerous stunts carried out for online popularity not only violate the law but also endanger the lives of innocent commuters sharing the road.
