One arrested in Jamui gang-rape case

Patna: Jamui police on Thursday arrested one person in connection with the abduction, alleged gang rape and circulation of an obscene video of a 19-year-old woman. Raids are on to nab the remaining accused, police said.According to the survivor’s family, the incident took place around 10am on June 21 when she went to a local market. Two youths allegedly abducted her on a motorcycle after forcing her to inhale a substance and took her to a forested area, where she was assaulted. A video of the act was also recorded, the family alleged.The survivor returned home later the same day, but the incident came to light after the video surfaced on social media.

A written complaint was lodged at Khaira police station on June 23, following which an FIR was registered against two named accused and others.Police conducted a medical examination and recorded the survivor’s statement before a court on June 24. The family alleged she suffered mental distress after the video went viral.Jamui SP Vishwajeet Dayal said, “One accused has been arrested and efforts are underway to identify others seen in the footage. Notices have been issued for removal of the video from online platforms. Further investigation is on.”
