One killed, seven injured as auto rickshaw overturns in Barwani

Times News NetworkBarwani: A 60-year-old woman died, and seven persons were injured when an overloaded auto rickshaw overturned on Khandwa-Vadodara highway on the outskirts of Barwani district headquarters on Wednesday.The accident took place near a petrol pump when the three-wheeler, carrying more than 10 passengers against its permitted capacity, overturned twice after the driver swerved to avoid an oncoming motorcycle, police said. The woman, identified as Sangeeta Gole, a resident of Satpura Colony, died on the spot.According to one of the injured passengers, Anita Bai, the group had boarded the auto rickshaw at Karanja Square and was headed to Taloon village to attend a religious function.She said a two-wheeler suddenly came in front of the vehicle near the petrol pump, prompting the driver to swerve. The auto rickshaw veered off the road and overturned twice after the driver lost control.Passersby rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped passengers before alerting police and ambulance services. The injured, all residents of Barwani, were shifted to district hospital in a 108 ambulance, officials said.Doctors said their condition was stable. Police have seized the auto rickshaw and registered a case.
