One Tourist Killed, Three Injured After Car Crashes Near Atal Tunnel In Himachal

Tourist from Rajasthan died and three were injured after their vehicle overspeeding from Manali to Lahaul crashed near the Atal Tunnel north portal in Himachal Pradesh.

A 34-year-old tourist from Rajasthan was killed, and three others were injured after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed near the north portal of the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Kailash, a resident of Sikar district in Rajasthan.

The injured were identified as Aditya from Lakhimpur in Uttar Pradesh, Rajendra from Sikar, and Siddharth, the driver of the vehicle, also from Sikar.

According to police, the group was travelling from Manali to Lahaul on Tuesday night when the accident occurred.

At around 10 pm, soon after the vehicle exited the north portal of the Atal Tunnel, it went off the road and plunged towards the Chandra River.

Police said the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to overspeeding while negotiating a turn, following which it crashed into an under-construction bridge over the river.

Sissu Station House Officer Mukesh Rathour said the injured are undergoing treatment.

He added that the body of the deceased has been taken into custody and the family has been informed. The body will be handed over to the relatives after the postmortem examination once they arrive.

Police have advised tourists to avoid travelling at night and refrain from overspeeding in hilly areas, particularly during the monsoon season, when roads become slippery, and visibility is reduced.
